Volunteer

Volunteering at Arts on View is an incredibly enriching and rewarding experience!

Arts on View is a hub of creativity and community, and volunteering with us is a great way to meet new people who share your passion for live music.

Whether you are already a jazz fan or just starting to explore the genre, volunteering at Arts on View is a great way to deepen your knowledge and appreciation of the music.

You could gain valuable experience in event planning, customer service, and other relevant skills that can help you in your personal and professional life.

You will be part of something meaningful: Arts on View Society is a place where people come together to celebrate and support musicians, and your work with us will contribute to a meaningful cause.

Did you know?  Arts on View Society receives grants and donations from a large variety of supporters, and with these contributions we are able to support emerging artists, sustain the “Hermann’s Legacy” series, and keep the doors open at the longest-continually running Jazz club in Canada.  Thank you for your interest in being a part of that!

Volunteer Roles

Door Volunteers

Our door volunteers are responsible for creating a welcoming and positive environment for guests. In this role, you are the first to make a good impression on our guests – truly a critical role!

You must be friendly and approachable: Smile warmly and make eye contact with guests as they approach.  Show genuine interest in their presence and make them feel welcome.

You must be knowledgeable: Be familiar with the club’s offerings and upcoming events so you can provide information and answer questions.

You must be organized and efficient: Arts on View has systems in place in order to keep the process as smooth as possible.  As a volunteer, you will be supported by paid staff and other volunteers with advanced experience.

You must be flexible:  Be prepared to handle unexpected situation such as VIP guests or groups, emergencies, or other surprises.  It is important that you can stay calm and be solutions-oriented.

Overall, your goal as a door greeter is to create a positive first impression for guests and set the tone for their experience at the club.  With a friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient attitude, you can help guests feel welcome and ensure their first impression is a great one.
