I’m a freelance musician and past president of the Musicians’ Association of Victoria Local 247 Canadian Federation of Musicians. I’m writing in support of Hermann’s Jazz Club. Hermann’s is a vital part of Victoria’s music culture. Over the years countless local and touring artists of many musical genres have performed at this venue. It has also welcomed generations of student and emerging artists many of whom made their first public appearances on it’s stage. Venues like this perform a vital role in our culture. They provide a goal for young artists, and an ongoing showcase for the more established. Like many others, I have witnessed artists first aspire to, then achieve their vision and move on to record and tour internationally having Hermann’s to thank in part for it’s important role in this process. I’ve enjoyed countless precious experiences at HJC both in the audience and on stage and hope to see it continue for many years to come. yours
