I have toured Canada many times and it is always a pleasure to include Victoria. Many of those concerts have been at Hermann’s Jazz Club. I have always enjoyed the intimate feel of the club and the warm reception from the appreciative audiences. I believe it is very important to keep venues that play a strong roll in the community music scene open. Here in Toronto we are on the verge of losing the club Hugh’s Room. I can’t imagine that venue not being there. It is a vital location in the west end of toronto for all styles of music. I see Hermanns as a similar hub for music in your community. I hope that Victoria does not lose an historically important venue as well. A quick perusal of the events shows a variety of music from dixieland , to big band, to blues, young musicians playing original music and jazz jams. I see composers like amazing John Korsrud is a guest soon. As places like this are in danger of disappearing we need to make more of an effort to support and maintain venues for live music in our communities.
