In terms of the world-wide music community, Hermann’s is the single venue in Victoria that gives this city cultural credibility as a jazz destination. There is no other place in Victoria that has hosted the level of international performers and jazz tourists that Hermann’s has and to lose this venue would be ridiculously sad and a blow to tourism as well. I am wondering why the City of Victoria has not stepped in with any funding to keep this landmark alive. I am also wondering why the Victoria Jazz Society hasn’t stepped up – this is a venue that has been a hallmark for Victoria’s International Jazz Festival and I would think they have a stake in seeing it continue.
