Hermann’s is a hub for both jazz players and fans, as well as a local and national landmark. A second home for many Victorians, it a showcase for a vibrant local scene and also known as a place to hear Canadian and international talent. Three generations of our family have enjoyed the club for many years now, and it is unique in that very few places encourage multiple generations to regularly come together over a love of music.
With a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere, both established as well as aspiring musicians have a place at Hermann’s. Over the years, scores of middle- and high-school students have grown musically by being able to perform in a “real club”, whether through formal concerts, or informal open jams with the mentorship of more seasoned musicians. In fact, this environment was instrumental in encouraging our child to pursue music studies in post-secondary.
Support of the arts is vital for community building and Hermann’s has nurtured a vibrant, intergenerational jazz community right here in our backyard. We would like to see this continue for future generations and appreciate the efforts of the Jazz on View Society to keep this incredible cultural gathering place going.
